DIY Kit - Oval Organizer Basket Kit - Coiled Rope Basket Kit
The Oval Organizer DIY Rope Basket Kit from The Mountain Thread Company sets you up to sew one of our most popular designs: the Oval Organizer Basket! This size of basket will make its own uses - collecting keys, holding phones or remote controls, organizing a desktop, or gifting a friend. Expect some variation, but the finished basket would measure around 5x11” and 3” deep.
The Oval Organizer Kit contains the following:
15 Yards of 3/16” 100% cotton rope (an exclusive Mountain Thread Company braid made in our home state of North Carolina) to make one oval baskets
Introduction card with details for machine settings, thread selection, and expanded tips for fabric wrapping and customizing the baskets
Detailed instructions with illustrations for making the project AND finishing detail
1 heavy duty sewing machine needle

In addition to the materials included in the kit, makers will need a sewing machine**, scissors, and 50 wt thread. Makers can also incorporate any of their own fabric remnants if desired (fabrics are not included).
**The Mountain Thread Company’s signature 3/16” rope was developed specifically for coiled rope basketry, and is custom made exclusively for The Mountain Thread Company. It is similar to layers of denim or canvas, which can be sewn on domestic machines. Use the provided heavy duty needle (a size 100/16 denim needle) to accommodate the thickness of the rope.
This intermediate level kit is ideal for the crafty sewist who is ready to build and develop new skills related to coiled rope basketry. Coiled rope basket projects are for sewists who are confident in steps like changing the machine needle, adjusting stitch length and width, and pivoting.
