Get ready for a unique kit idea - a crafter’s choice kit where you receive a set of materials and create your own unique project. Then you share your inspiration and outcomes with a community working with the same materials!

  • The Roped In Kit by The Mountain Thread Company is a rope basket kit that will be available for purchase six times per year. The order window will be open for six days in each of the months of January, March, May, July, September, and November.

  • Orders will be open from the 5th-10th of the month, with the kits shipping by the 20th of the month. Please note that if you order additional items with your Roped In Kit, the entire shipment will be held until all items are ready to ship.

The Roped In Kit is a “Crafter’s Choice” concept - the individual maker gets to design and choose the project outcome using the included rope and “accent” piece(s) such as fabric, beads or buttons, etc. The accent pieces vary from cycle to cycle, but everyone who orders the Roped In Kit in a particular month will receive the same accent.

The JULY accent pieces are four one-yard cuts of colorful twill tape and embroidered ricrac. The accent will be included in the July kit along with 20 yards of Mountain Thread Company signature rope and a denim needle. We can’t wait to see what you create!

Once you receive your kit - make something! Take a photo of your finished project showcasing the kit elements and accent, and share it on our Rope Crew Facebook Group for a chance to win the next Roped In Crafter’s Choice Kit free! This kit does not contain step by step instructions; rather, it is for the crafter who is comfortable with the basics of coiled rope basketry or who is comfortable learning through tutorial videos.

Q&A

What is included in the Roped In Kit?

  • The Roped In Kit includes 20 yards of Mountain Thread Co’s 3/16” rope, a size 16 denim needle for the sewing machine, and an “accent” piece. The accent will be something that should be incorporated into the project in order to submit it to Rope Crew. Each kit also includes a Roped In Kit guide with handy information for the making cycle.

  • Roped In Kits do not contain step by step instructions or measurements. The actual project details are up to the individual maker.

Do I have to use what is sent to me?

Yes and No - we know how crafters are …

  • Yes - One participant in each cycle will be randomly selected to get the next Roped In Kit free! In order to do this, the participant will have to submit a photo of what they made with the rope and accent piece to our Rope Crew Facebook group. If you want to be in on that, use that accent piece in the kit and share your project!

  • No - Of course you can use or not use what is sent to you. Make your choices and have fun along the way! But if you do decide to make a project using the kit rope and included accent, then you could win a free kit the next go round. Your call.

Can I add other elements to the project?

  • Absolutely! You get to choose project shape and size and any other elements you want to incorporate into the Roped In Kit.

I’ve never sewn rope before. Can I do this?

  • We love cheerleading sewists along in their crafty endeavors, and we also recognize that not everyone wants to begin with something as open ended as the Roped In Kit. Check out the tutorial videos first. While sewing rope is approachable, some crafters prefer step by step instructions rather than the open ended concept. If you’re the type that prefers to know the punch line, consider starting with any of our other DIY kits. You can always try one of those first, then join in on the Roped In Kit for the next cycle.

How do I submit a project?

  • Orders will ship after the cycle window closes. At the beginning of the following month there will be a prompt on the Rope Crew Facebook group to post completed projects with the hashtag #ropedinkit, and a winner will be selected before the next Roped In Kit cycle begins! If you want to share your progress along the way, tag @themountainthreadcompany on social media, and use the hashtag #ropedinkit so we can see what you’re doing!
