There will be two basketry sessions on Saturday, February 9th.
In Beginner Basketry, participants will learn the basics of coiled rope basketry by designing and constructing their own rope bowls at The Mountain Thread Company. This class is from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
In Intermediate Basketry, participants will review all the basic techniques and learn how to work with larger sizes, add handles, calculate rope usage, and more. This class is from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Each class includes: heavy duty needles, 40 yards of 100% cotton solid braid rope (our custom braid of rope that’s made right here in North Carolina for The Mountain Thread Co), group and individualized instruction, and handouts. Participants must bring their own machines. A limited number of shop machines may be available for rent ($10 per session)
This class is geared toward intermediate sewists who are comfortable with the following skills: threading machines, loading bobbins, following a seam allowance, changing machine needles, and adjusting stitch settings on their machines. Beginner basketry classes are for those who want their first introduction to coiled rope basketry in a group lesson setting. Intermediate basketry classes are for those who have some experience and are looking to build their skill and technique related to coiled rope basketry.
Beginner Basketry: $45
Intermediate Basketry: $55
